Constantine Iliopoulos, PhD

Constantine’s mission is to co-create with people, cooperatives and other organizations, as well as communities, innovative, effective and sustainable solutions to pressing organizational challenges and social dilemmas through action research, writing, effective facilitation, experiential training, systems-wise team building, and team coaching/mentoring. He accomplishes this by combining his: 1) 25+ years of experience in leading and participating in top-quality research projects in numerous countries; 2) passion since childhood and deep knowledge of agricultural cooperatives and team dynamics that stems from his 25 years of collaboration with the Graduate Institute of Cooperative Leadership (GICL) of the University of Missouri, USA; and 3) training in systems thinking and system dynamics at AKMA, one of the most recognized systemic training and therapy centers in Europe.

During the last 20 years Costas has worked with people in leading agribusiness cooperatives such as California Tomato Growers and Land O’ Lakes, USA, Co-operative Bulk Handling, Australia; ZON, FrieslandCampina, CRV, The Netherlands; ΚEVILI, Estonia; Koperattiva Produtturi tal-Halib Ltd., Malta; Santo Wines, Kefalonia Fisheries, Greece, and many more.

Since July 1, 2019, Costas serves as a Visiting Professor of Cooperatives at the Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg, and as Visiting Research Fellow at the Leibniz Institute of Agricultural Development in Transition Economies (IAMO) in Halle (Saale), Germany. In the latter capacity, he is currently coordinating a three-year research project, which focuses on the governance of agricultural cooperatives with highly heterogeneous member preferences.

Costas also serves as Director and Senior Researcher at the Agricultural Economics Research Institute (AGRERI), Adjunct Professor at the Agricultural University of Athens, Greece, and Affiliated Faculty member at the Graduate Institute of Cooperative leadership (GICL), University of Missouri, USA. He has conducted research and/or coordinated more than 30 international and national research projects funded by the EU, USDA, OCDI, the Volkswagen Foundation, and numerous agricultural cooperatives and agribusiness firms. His research has won prestigious awards, such as the Nourse Award of the National Council of Farmer Cooperatives (NCFC), USA, and has been published in top-ranked academic journals and books. Dr Iliopoulos is repeatedly invited as a speaker or trainer by top universities, cooperatives, governmental, civil society, and international organizations in over 20 countries in Europe, the Americas, Africa, and Oceania.
